Paunović spoke at the general debate within the 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, where it was emphasised that access to justice is one of the key values of every democratic society and that it must be available to all women and girls without exception, fear or obstacles.
She underlined that Serbia has significantly improved institutional mechanisms for the protection of women's rights in previous decades.
The Minister stated that more than a third of the ministers in the current Serbian government are women, and that they occupy almost half of the management positions, while at the same time they make up more than half of the employees in the public sector.
She added that Serbia is a signatory to numerous international conventions, agreements and documents relating to gender equality, the prohibition of discrimination and the protection of women's rights, including relevant conventions of the United Nations and the Council of Europe, such as the Beijing Declaration and the Istanbul Convention.
Paunović also emphasised that Serbia, in the process of accession to the European Union, is continuously harmonising with the Union's acquis in the field of anti-discrimination and equal opportunities.
