The meeting was chaired by Jiri Plecity from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood.
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Professor Dragan Glamočić, PhD, stated that Serbia remains firmly and unequivocally committed to the EU integration process and to respecting the obligations arising from the Stabilisation and Association Agreement.
Today we are not talking about trade restrictions, but about temporary and proportionate market stabilisation. Our proposal is that the measures be strictly time-limited for a period of up to six months, with the possibility of their earlier lifting, if conditions are created for the normalisation of market movements. We are ready to jointly monitor the effects during that period and regularly exchange data with the EC, Glamočić explained.
It was also emphasised in the conversation that Serbia, in order to preserve fair market conditions, will take appropriate measures in relation to the import of milk and dairy products from other markets from which increased imports have been recorded.
The EC particularly welcomed Serbia’s initiative to first hold a consultative meeting, in accordance with the provisions of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement. It was assessed that this practice contributes to transparency and strengthening mutual trust.
The conversation took place in a constructive and open atmosphere. The EC representatives have requested further clarifications and exchange of data from Serbia in writing.
After further exchange of data and their analysis, Serbia and the EC will continue discussions with the aim of finding the best solution.
