At a news conference following the meeting with the delegation from North Macedonia, Đedović Handanović stated that Serbia, after completing the gas interconnection with Bulgaria, continues to diversify its supply routes, with the construction of a gas pipeline to North Macedonia being among the priorities.
The Minister said that joint timeline plans were discussed, and the goal is for the Serbia-North Macedonia gas interconnection to be completed by the end of 2027, so that it can be operational at the beginning of 2028.
According to her, the talks also covered the supply of oil derivatives and the possibility for part of the demand, primarily in southern Serbia, to be met from North Macedonia, which would also provide logistical support in road and rail transport.
Božinovska assessed that, with this new energy link, both countries will gain access to alternative sources and routes, while Europe will gain a stronger and better connected Balkans.
We have completed studies, an agreed route, the support of European partners and a clear implementation timeline. Our goal is for the interconnector to become a reality in the shortest possible time, Božinovska stated.
As part of the visit of the delegation from North Macedonia to Belgrade, a meeting of the working group for the Serbia-North Macedonia gas interconnection project was also held today, at which it was agreed that the delegations should meet regularly every few months to monitor the project’s progress.
