Following a meeting between President of the Republic Aleksandar Vučić with the teams responsible for the country’s energy stability and security, which was attended by Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, government ministers and company directors, Đedović Handanović emphasised that citizens should have no doubt that the state will do everything to preserve the stability of supply and overall energy stability.
The Minister recalled that 60 days have passed since sanctions came into force, that is, since crude oil deliveries to the Pančevo Refinery were suspended, and stressed that neither the market nor the citizens have felt any impact.
According to her, this demonstrates the state’s strong preparedness for the situation and the citizens’ trust in the state.
Expressing gratitude to citizens for their understanding, Đedović Handanović said that all institutions are engaged and that the state is doing everything to safeguard the security of supply.
She warned that the situation with NIS is not easy and that problems are piling up, noting that one of the challenges is the subsidised price of fuel for farmers at NIS filling stations.
We will try to resolve these challenges, Đedović Handanović said, adding that the state will continue to increase its reserves, as it has done over the past three years.
According to her, additional quantities of 49,000 tonnes of diesel are arriving in December and January, and another 38,000 tonnes of petrol are on the way, as previously agreed, and there is enough fuel oil for the entire heating season.
The Minister also noted that the state is in constant communication with all market participants – both domestic and foreign companies, which have already significantly increased their imports, but are also prepared to place part of the mandatory reserves of oil derivatives on the market in order to increase supply and ensure that it remains as evenly distributed as possible.
What citizens need to know is that we have done everything that our Russian partners asked of us, that we agreed they may speak with whomever they wish in order to sell their share, and that we approved this at state level, Đedović Handanović said.
However, she added, we should not forget that these sanctions were introduced by the United States and that we are a small country that simply wishes to pursue its neutral policy.
The state will, if necessary, make certain difficult decisions to protect Serbia’s energy security and safety, because citizens must not suffer damage due to disagreements between great powers, the Minister concluded.
