Macut emphasised that these projects prove that balanced development across Serbia is not just an idea but a reality, adding that the LIID project, worth $300 million, connects the state, local self-governments and Serbia’s international partners in the common goal of making every place in Serbia a better place to live.
The Prime Minister specified that, so far, 43 municipalities and cities have signed contracts worth more than €42 million, while today an additional 15 local self-governments signed contracts worth nearly €12 million.
He pointed out that these are investments in new streets, parks, public lighting, bicycle paths and green areas – projects that change people’s everyday lives across Serbia.
Macut said that LIID is not only an investment in infrastructure but also in knowledge, capacities and the future of every local community, announcing that the Government of Serbia will continue to support towns and municipalities, as a strong municipality means a strong state.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to all those whose work and expertise have contributed to the progress of this major undertaking – ministries, partners from international institutions and, in particular, the presidents of municipalities and cities who recognised the opportunity and made efforts to ensure that their communities and Serbia move forward, adding that he hopes the results of this project will soon be visible.
The contracts were signed by representatives of local self-governments from Ćićevac, Doljevac, Kuršumlija, Nova Crnja, Pećinci, Preševo, Sremski Karlovci, Žitište, Žabar, Smederevo, Kladovo, Knjaževac, Veliko Gradište, Mionica and Čačak, which will use the funds for various projects aimed at improving the quality of life for their residents.
