Police will not bow to any pressure or “sugar, oil, drugs or any other affair,” Serbian Minister of Interior Dragan Jocic said at the ceremony.
The Ministry and the government are resolved to create a law-abiding state, said Jocic, adding that every person who broke the law will be brought to justice.
Serbia will have a modern, democratic police force that will serve citizens and have a stronger legal foundation, he went on to say, stressing that police reform is only a part of overall reforms.
Police reform, which is one of the government’s priorities, along with the fight against terrorism, crime and corruption, calls for a stricter internal control and parliamentary monitoring, he added.
Serbian police is capable of meeting any security challenge and ensuring peace and safety for all citizens, said Jocic and stressed that armed criminals will not walk the streets of Belgrade ever again.
Noting that the Ministry has embarked on police depoliticisation, Jocic said that reputable and educated police officers have been appointed to top positions in the Ministry and all of its local units in the country.
