In a scientific conference held in the Sava Centre, Popovic said that this means that €1.4 million will be invested from EU’s funds in Serbian science, which along with €2.6 million from the previous competition, amounts to €4 million for promoting research capacities in Serbia.
He said that the European Commission accepted projects done by the Novi Sad Faculty of Technical Sciences, the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Novi Sad, the Faculty of Agriculture, Mihajlo Pupin Institute and the Institute for Medical Research in Belgrade.
According to Popovic, the European Commission also approved four projects from Croatia, three from Macedonia while the remaining two are from Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania.
Popovic expressed hope that Serbia will manage to enter the EU’s Framework Programme 7 (FP7), which would mean that Serbian science would have access to all EU funds.
European Commissioner for Science Janez Potocnik, who spent the last two days in Belgrade, said in this conference that Serbia has always been a country with a good scientific tradition.

Potocnik pointed out that science and research will always stimulate the country’s integration within the EU and added that the development of science is of great importance because countries must be ready to face two crucial challenges in this changing world – globalisation and accelerated technical progress.
He said that the EU attaches a great importance to environmental protection following the Lisbon Strategy - based on how to maintain and promote the quality of living and become globally competitive.
Potocnik said that Serbia’s future is in Europe and that integration of the Western Balkans is immensely important for regional stability.
