In a promotion of
golden and silver coins and postal stamp with Nikola Tesla’s face, Jelasic said that Tesla shared the destiny of our people even through the ups and downs of the dinar currency.
Jelasic recalled that Tesla first appeared on a 500 dinar banknote in 1970, only to reappear seven times during the 1992-1993 hyperinflation, including on a 10 billion dinar banknote.
The 20 dinar coin with Tesla’s face was released on June 30, 2006. After October 2000 changes, the NBS released a new 100 dinar banknote with Tesla, which was redesigned in July 2003.
The promotion was also attended by Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Radomir Naumov, Minister of Science and Environmental Protection Aleksandar Popovic, Director General of postal operator PTT Srbija Dragan Kovacevic and members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of companies and banks.
