Celebration of 150th birthday of Nikola Tesla held in Sava Centre

Belgrade, 11 July 2006

The 150th birthday of great scientist Nikola Tesla was celebrated last night at Belgrade's Sava Centre. The event was attended by the most prominent figures from the world of science, culture, politics and business in Serbia.

The celebration was opened by a short film on the life and work of the famous inventor, followed by a speech of the Speaker of Serbian parliament, Predrag Markovic. He told the citizens of Serbia that their obligation towards Tesla is to take energy from this country and make it available to every individual.

He said that Tesla's greatness is precisely in the fact that he managed to take energy from the earth and nature and lift it beyond all limits.

President of the Serbian Academy of Science and Arts Nikola Hajdin also addressed the audience, after which the cultural programme continued.

The celebration of the 150th anniversary of Nikola Tesla in Sava Centre was attended by Serbian President Boris Tadic, Minister of Defence Zoran Stankovic, Minister of Economy Predrag Bubalo, Minister of Science and Environmental Protection Aleksandar Popovic, Minister of Energy and Mining Radomir Naumov, Minister of Culture Dragan Kojadinovic, Belgrade Mayor Nenad Bogdanovic and other public figures.
