Monument to Nikola Tesla unveiled at Belgrade airport

Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Radomir Naumov has unveiled a monument to Nikola Tesla at the Belgrade airport, marking the 150th birth anniversary of the great Serbian and world scientist.

My wish is that this monument will be a beacon to passers-by coming to and leaving Serbia through this airport, which will show them that the Serbian legacy in contributing to civilisation is much greater than it seemed, Naumov said.

The monument, work of sculptor Drinka Radovanovic, was donated by Serbian power supplier Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS).

The unveiling ceremony at the Nikola Tesla airport was attended by numerous guests from abroad, representatives of the diplomatic corps and Serbian government ministers.

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica is hosting a reception for officials to mark the great jubilee as well as an academy tonight at the Sava Centre in Belgrade starting at 8 pm.

The marking of the 150th birth anniversary of Nikola Tesla, organised under the auspices of the Serbian government on July 9, 10 and 11, will include numerous events to honour the life and work of Tesla.

Apart from representatives of Serbia's political, social, cultural, religious, scientific and business institutions, the celebration will be attended by representatives of 22 states worldwide.
