Serbian Minister of International Economics Milan Parivodic said at the unveiling ceremony that Nikola Tesla is the greatest son of the Serbian nation whose universal inventions benefited all humankind.
Representative of the Serbian Orthodox Church parish of St. George in Niagara Aleksandar Pantelic said that there is no better spot for a monument to Tesla than the Niagara Falls, because the place is historically connected to Tesla’s work.
The monument in the Niagara Falls national park, some 200 meters from the falls, has been raised by the mission parish of St. George in Canada in cooperation with the governments of Canada and Serbia, and the sculpture presents a life size Tesla in the 39th year of his life standing on an alternating current motor.
Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Radomir Naumov and Serbian Minister of Science and Environmental Protection Aleksandar Popovic, and several guests from the country and abroad visited the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade yesterday on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of the great scientist.
The visitors were received by Director of the museum Vladimir Jelenkovic, who said that the museum houses the entire legacy of Nikola Tesla, and the archive consists of material from Tesla’s personal fund and collections of photographs.
Jelenkovic said that the museum contains Tesla’s original work, patents and patented documents, plans and drawings, and some 1000 articles comprising nine collections – four collections of a technical nature, two collections of Tesla’s personal items and three artistic collections.
He said that the museum library has 786 books, 323 magazines, some 50,000 newspaper cuttings and a significant fund of monographic and serial publications concerning Tesla’s life and work.
Last night the National Theater in Belgrade hosted the world premier of the multimedia opera “Violet Fire” about Nikola Tesla by modern American composer and one of the leaders of the minimalist movement Jon Gibson.
