Improving cooperation with Slovakia in field of irregular migration

Belgrade, 13 June 2025

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić spoke today with Slovak Minister of the Interior Matúš Šutaj Eštok about further improving cooperation between the two ministries, with a special emphasis on the fight against irregular migration.

Dačić emphasised that Slovakia is very interested in helping to strengthen the surveillance of our state border, by forming joint patrols on the territory of Serbia, on the border lines that are considered to be risky when it comes to migrants.

Dačić recalled that Serbia has signed a general agreement with Frontex on this issue, explaining that it will be seen whether it is possible to include cooperation with Slovakia within the framework of that agreement, or whether a bilateral agreement will be signed.

According to him, the migratory pressure on our country has decreased significantly this year.

Eštok once again confirmed Slovakia's position on respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.

He expressed gratitude to Serbia for making great efforts to protect the Schengen border, and in this sense, the borders of Slovakia, expressing his readiness to improve cooperation with our country in the field of migration, both through Frontex and bilaterally.
