Readiness to improve cooperation, friendly ties with African countries

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić underlined today during the talks with Minister of Defence and Internal Order of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe Horácio Castro da Trindade de Sousa that the relations between the two countries are good and friendly, and that there is considerable room for their improvement.

At the meeting, held within the framework of a high-level commemorative gathering marking the 65th anniversary of the First Conference of Heads of State and Government of Non-Aligned Countries, Dačić expressed Serbia's readiness to improve bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest.

The Deputy Prime Minister particularly emphasised the importance of developing cooperation in the field of security and the fight against transnational crime, as well as in the fields of economy, education and trade.

He expressed gratitude for the support of this friendly state in preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, as well as for its support in international organisations.

Dačić highlighted the fact that São Tomé and Príncipe was the first state to withdraw its recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, and that it voted against the adoption of the resolution on Srebrenica in 2024.

The Deputy Prime Minister also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Mali Abdoulaye Diop.

On that occasion, he assessed that this meeting represents continuity in the intensification of bilateral relations between the two countries, bearing in mind that he led the Serbian delegation during a historic visit to Mali in December last year, which renewed political dialogue at the highest level after more than 20 years.

The interlocutors confirmed their strong commitment to further strengthening traditional friendship and developing bilateral relations through the implementation of cooperation in the modern political and economic context, and stressed the importance of respecting international law, territorial integrity and sovereignty of states.

Dačić conveyed gratitude to Diop for the principled position of the Republic of Mali on the issue of non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo.

Mutual satisfaction was expressed at the meeting that the Republic of Mali will present its rich cultural heritage and potential at Specialised Expo 2027 in Belgrade.

During the talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Security and Customary Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Jacquemain Shabani, the Deputy Prime Minister underlined that the two countries share decades of traditionally friendly relations, founded on the values of freedom, sovereignty and mutual respect established within the Non-Aligned Movement.

The interlocutors discussed the current security challenges facing both countries, as well as opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation.

Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening the partnership in the fight against organised crime and terrorism, as well as on the exchange of experience and the training of police officers.

Dačić conveyed gratitude to the Democratic Republic of the Congo for its principled position on preserving the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia, stressing that Serbia deeply values the support the country provides in international forums.

Shabani reaffirmed the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s readiness to further deepen comprehensive bilateral relations, with a particular focus on strengthening the security sector and responding jointly to contemporary global threats.

During the talks, both sides expressed satisfaction with the confirmed participation of this African country in Specialised Expo 2027.
