The Ministry reacted to information that appeared in the media that formetanate was found in frozen strawberries from Serbia and that the consumption of this fruit poses a risk to human health, as well as that the RASFF notification informed that residues of the active substance formetanate above the maximum permitted residue limit (MRL) were found in samples from a shipment of frozen strawberries originating from Serbia and exported from Slovenia.
The Ministry notes that the shipment of frozen strawberries has not yet been returned to Serbia and that in the event of its return, it will be subject to border phytosanitary inspection control.
The Agricultural Inspection Sector, as part of the further procedure for establishing traceability, continued control of the sender of the frozen strawberries.
On that occasion, it was determined that the strawberries in question originated from Albania, imported as frozen on 2 June 2024, in a total quantity of 19,913 kilograms.
When determining the compliance of this product, a laboratory analysis was performed, which confirms that the product is compliant.
Part of that shipment in the amount of 15,444 kilograms was exported to Slovenia and further to Belgium, and the remaining quantity of the total imported is in the importer's warehouse.
Control of exporters continues, and if any irregularities are found, legally prescribed measures will be taken, the statement adds.
