At the ceremonial opening of the project – worth €2 million and funded by the EU – Đurđević Stamenkovski explained that this initiative represents another significant step towards strengthening Serbia’s partnership with its European partners and reforming the labour market in line with the best European practices.
According to her, the project will include aligning domestic legislation with the EU acquis, drafting a new Labour Law and Serbia’s first Law on Internships, and strengthening consultative mechanisms with social partners.
She added that particular emphasis will be placed on preparing Serbia to join the European Network of Employment Services (EURES).
The Minister noted that participation in EURES is a prerequisite for full integration of Serbia’s labour market into the European one and the equal participation of Serbian employment agencies in the European labour market, as well as an opportunity for improved employee mobility, protection of their rights and more efficient connections between employers and jobseekers within the EU.
She stated that the project’s implementation will enable an assessment of the legal and institutional framework, the training of experts, capacity building of the Ministry, the National Employment Service and private agencies, as well as the drafting of a roadmap for EURES accession.
Đurđević Stamenkovski emphasised that over the next two years, this project will be an important step in Serbia-EU negotiations, expressing confidence that its outcomes will be long-term, sustainable and, above all, beneficial for the citizens of Serbia.
In her view, each project of this kind serves as a cornerstone and a clear indicator of the country’s commitment to building a fairer, more transparent and modern society.
The project is being implemented in cooperation with EU Member States Greece, France, Sweden and Slovenia.
