Speaking at a seminar on the new statistic system he said that emphasis has been put on all kinds of statistics connected with the third phase of the European Monetary Union and the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe and growth, and to the areas which are of primary importance for negotiations on association and for integration of candidate countries into the European statistical system.
Similarly, priorities also include statistics connected to the field of competition, sustainable growth, social policy, the labour market, environmental protection, living conditions and emigration.
He recalled that the law on statistics is being examined by parliament, and added that the Serbian government should, immediately upon its adoption, form a statistics council, aiming to improve cooperation between sources of official statistics.
Head of the Economic and European Integration Section of the European Commission Esmeralda Hernandez-Aragones said that the statistics system of Serbia has made great progress in implementing international classifications and standards, which is very important for the process of joining the EU.
The seminar “On the path to a new statistics system – partnership in the development of national accounts in Serbia” was held under the organisation of the Serbian Statistics Office and the Italian National Institute of Statistics.
