Deputy Director of the Serbian government's EU Integration Office Srdjan Majstorovic said today that Serbia will be ready to continue negotiations on stabilisation and association with the EU, as soon as a decision regarding their resumption is brought.
In a statement to the news agency Tanjug, Majstorovic said that it is necessary to adopt a new mandate for continuing negotiations between the EU and Serbia, since the previous mandate was designed for negotiations with the state union of Serbia-Montenegro.
He said that he does not expect there will be problems in adopting a new mandate for continuation of negotiations because it is a technical document.
The announcement that an action plan for cooperation with the Hague tribunal will be adopted reflects a positive development in relations between Serbia and the EU, said Majstorovic. He added that it is a step forward in building mutual trust and establishing a partnership, aiming to solve this extraordinarily difficult issue.
According to Majstorovic, if Serbia fulfills the European Commission’s plan, negotiations could be concluded by the end of the year.
