Đurić expressed his satisfaction with the quality of cooperation that Serbian state institutions have been achieving with the US Congress in recent years, noting that these relations are of essential importance for building a new reputation for Serbia and increasing its political visibility in the United States.
He emphasised that Serbian-American political relations have begun to enter a new era in recent years, which is visible both on the political and economic fronts, and reiterated that the opening of a strategic dialogue would represent a new strong framework for cooperation in all areas of common interest.
The Serbian Foreign Minister particularly emphasised the growing momentum in economic cooperation between Serbia and the United States, noting that it is important for Serbia that the cooperation takes place in vital sectors, such as energy and the ICT industry.
In addition to economic cooperation, military-security cooperation is one of the most promising areas of bilateral relations, the Minister assessed, and noted that the very successful cooperation through the State Partnership Program with the Ohio National Guard provides a strong impetus to the strengthening of overall relations between Serbia and the United States.
The Minister informed his interlocutors in detail about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and reiterated that the unilateral actions of the Albin Kurti regime are the greatest threat to regional stability, and that the United States can provide an irreplaceable contribution to stabilising the situation on the ground and stopping the campaign of violence and pressure from Priština on the Serbian people.
Đurić also spoke about Serbia's regional policy, emphasising that the country strives to implement a positive political and diplomatic agenda in relations with its neighbours, in order to focus relations primarily on economic development and other forms of mutually beneficial cooperation.
The US congressional delegation included Representatives Mike Turner of Ohio, Linda Sánchez of California and Joe Wilson of South Carolina.
