Commitment to military neutrality, good relations with international actors

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić stated today in talks with NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General Kevin Hamilton that Serbia remains a committed and credible partner, a guarantor and generator of regional security, determined to maintain an optimal level of cooperation with NATO under the framework of the Partnership for Peace programme.

Gašić, at the meeting held on the sidelines of the NATO-Serbia multinational tactical exercise at the South base near Bujanovac, emphasised the importance of continuous dialogue between Serbia and NATO at all levels on issues of mutual interest.

He reiterated that Serbia is committed to military neutrality and to building good relations with all relevant international security actors.

The Minister stated that Serbia’s priorities are the preservation of regional stability, the continuation of economic development and growth, and the promotion of dialogue as the fundamental mechanism for overcoming outstanding issues.

He pointed out that participation in international missions under the auspices of the United Nations and the European Union for the maintenance of peace is of particular importance for members of Serbia’s armed forces, as is participation in exercises aimed at improving operational and functional capabilities and achieving the standards necessary for engagement in multinational operations.
