Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic said today that the picture of corruption in the judiciary is by large created by the inefficiency and inadequate quality of the work of courts.

Stojkovic answered citizens’ questions by phone today, and said that increase in the number of procedures started because of corruption in the judiciary is a positive sign, reflecting the fact that certain structures within the judicial organs are ready to deal with this negative social phenomenon.
The Minister said that parallel to establishing a rational network of magistrate courts, which are no longer organs dealing with misdemeanour, a competition will be announced for the selection of magistrates.
Those who are near retirement and those who do their work inexpertly and unconscientiously will not be selected, which will lead to the employment of young staff, who are already working as expert collaborators for a number of years, explained the Minister.
Stojkovic will regularly answer citizens’ questions regarding the work of the judiciary on the phone, every last Saturday in the month from now on.
