Speaking at a press conference titled “Human resources in health”, Simic stated that 90 doctors and 270 nurses will be employed in the territory of Belgrade, 120 doctors and 210 nurses in central Serbia, and 90 doctors and 210 nurses in Vojvodina.
She explained that medical personnel in the health institutions of Serbia are very unequally distributed and urban centres with the largest number of hospitals and specialised clinics have surplus staff, while in many municipalities and districts there is a shortage of certain medical personnel.
After two years this is the first time that 1000 new vacancies are available on the basis of an analysis of the situation and personnel requirement, which was conducted by the Committee for determining standards for health care, with finance and expert help provided by the World Bank, said Simic.
She said that preference in employment will be given to general practitioners as there is shortage of staff in Serbia in this area, as well as to medical staff for the health care of women and children, home care and support, polyvalent patronage and emergency medical services. She added that in Vojvodina it is necessary to replace the senior medical staff.
She stressed that nurses are needed throughout Serbia for secondary and tertiary health care, as well as diagnostic experts in radiology, anesthesiologists, and other medical staff.
Special advisor to the Minister of Health Ivana Misic said that the jobs will be announced on the bases of the established structure and standards, and the bases are academic excellence, the period of time spent waiting for a job and previous experience.
Misic explained that the committee in charge of employing new personnel will give a detailed report to the Ministry of Health on candidates selected after which it will employ candidates.
