Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica received today representatives of the Islamic community in Serbia, led by Belgrade Mufti Hamdija Jusufspahic, and condemned in the harshest terms all incidents caused by religious intolerance, especially the destruction and torching of the mosques in Belgrade and Nis.
Mufti Jusufspahic thanked the Prime Minister for the assistance and welcomed the beginning of reconstruction of the damaged facilities belonging to the Islamic community.
The participants in the meeting discussed issues important for the Islamic community in Serbia, such as legal regulation of the relationship between the state and religious communities, and the adequate representation of these communities in the media.
The representatives of the Islamic community said that they are very satisfied with the fact that Madras quickly restored its regular daily activities thanks to the Serbian Ministry of Religion, and that computers stolen from the Belgrade mosque were quickly found.
The meeting was also attended by Serbian Religion Minister Milan Radulovic, Zvornik Imam Redzo Nukic, Belgrade Imam Muhamed Jusufspahic, Novi Sad Imam Fadil Murati, Sabac Imam Muhamedalija Veli, and Imam Mustafa Jusufspahic.
