First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Siniša Mali spoke today with new President of the Fiscal Council Blagoje Paunović about current economic topics important for Serbia’s further growth and development.
Mali and Paunović discussed Serbia’s macroeconomic trends, foreign direct investments, preparations for EXPO 2027, as well as the country's cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The First Deputy Prime Minister stated that in the first half of this year, Serbia achieved a gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 4.3%, which ranks it among the fastest growing economies in Europe.
The unemployment rate in the second quarter of this year was at a record low level of 8.2%, while the employment rate reached 51.4%, the Minister emphasised and added that this is a clear indicator that the economic measures the state is implementing are effective and producing concrete results.
The First Deputy Prime Minister also presented the flow of work on the organisation of the International Specialised Exhibition EXPO 2027, which will be held in Belgrade and which represents the greatest development opportunity not only for Serbia, but also for the entire region.
The importance of continuous and successful cooperation with the IMF was highlighted, as well as the positive results achieved through the economic reforms implemented.
The officials concluded that the stability of public finances is a priority, as well as that it is necessary to continue with reforms in the field of energy and public enterprises.
