Begović, who is the newly appointed president of that Board, pointed out that ICGEB as an organisation stands at the forefront of scientific innovation, solving some of the most urgent challenges of our time - from the fight against infectious diseases to ensuring food security and sustainable energy solutions.
According to her, the work done by ICGEB transcends borders, politics and cultures, reflecting a universal commitment to improving the quality of life of people around the world.
I am privileged to address such a distinguished assembly representing 69 countries, each of which contributes to our common mission of advancing biotechnology for the benefit of all mankind, said the Minister.
She informed the members of the Board that in August 2023, at the initiative of Serbia, the United Nations adopted the Resolution on the International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development 2024-2033.
Begović recalled that the Resolution will be managed by UNESCO, with the assessment that this can be a great opportunity for ICGEB and all member states, related centres and researchers to show how international cooperation in the field of biotechnology can help achieve various goals of sustainable development.
