Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starović met today with Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence of Ireland Thomas Byrne to discuss the process of Serbia’s accession to the European Union, as well as the priorities of the Irish EU Presidency starting on 1 July.

Government fully committed to meeting obligations in EU accession process

At a meeting on the sidelines of the first day of the Munich Security Conference, Starović emphasised that European integration remains Serbia’s strategic commitment, noting that the government is fully dedicated to fulfilling obligations from the accession negotiations and to further harmonisation with the EU acquis.
During the talks, particular attention was devoted to Serbia’s reform activities in the areas of the rule of law, the functioning of democratic institutions and economic reforms, as well as the institutional strengthening of the Serbian negotiating structure, with the aim of accelerating the accession process.
The interlocutors also assessed that the European perspective of the Western Balkans is of key importance for the long-term stability of the region, as well as of the European Union itself.
