Following a meeting behind closed doors with the management and trade union representatives, Kostunica told reporters that the factory’s problems are “part of the overall problem in the country’s military industry.” He said the Serbian government and the Council of Ministers will start talks on dealing with these problems as early as Tuesday, May 18.
Kostunica added that the visit to Zastava Oruzje shows the government’s political will to tackle these problems. According to him, the government will also define measures to help bolster production in the plant.
Trade Union Chairman Jugoslav Ristic said the participants in the meeting agreed on the government’s subsidies to the factory as well as on lifting a ban on contracts with the Serbia-Montenegrin Army and police.
