Serbian, Chinese companies have signed contracts worth half a billion dollars

Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure Goran Vesic and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management Jelena Tanaskovic attended the Business Forum today, during which 15 Chinese state-owned enterprises signed trade agreements with Serbian companies worth approximately half a billion dollars.

After the signing of the agreements at the Chinese Cultural Centre, Vesic stated that this is a significant and important event in the development of relations between the two countries.

We expect that by the end of the year, a free trade agreement will be signed between our countries, after which there will be many more events like this and opportunities for Serbian companies to take their share of the Chinese market, he emphasised.

The Minister specified that the foreign trade exchange between China and Serbia amounted to $6.14 billion last year, with our exports amounting to $1.1 billion.

Tanasković stated that our trade in agricultural and food products, compared to 2015 when it amounted to $14.2 million, has increased to $55.5 million, which is the result of work, effort, and the signing of all previous agreements.

Director-General of the Department for Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China Li Xinjian pointed out that the Chinese market has great capacities at various levels, strong resilience, and enormous potential.

Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Serbia Chen Bo explained that the Chinese delegation consists of representatives from 15 large and powerful enterprises who have signed agreements on procurement with Serbian companies and will familiarize themselves with the development of the Serbian economy on the ground, which will contribute to closer and better cooperation between both sides.
