At the formal opening of factories Nidec Electric Motor Serbia d.o.o. and Nidec Elesys Europe d.o.o., which was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers Sinisa Mali and Milos Vucevic, Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Jelena Begovic and representatives of Nidec Corporation and the City of Novi Sad, Vucic emphasised that Japan is a very important trade partner for Serbia.
He pointed out that the trade exchange between the two countries used to amount to 4.9 million, while today it is approximately €300 million, noting that these are still small numbers, but that today's opening of factories increases our capacity to attract further investments.
Nidec, which was founded in 1973 in the Japanese city of Kyoto, is today a world leader in the production of all types of electric motors, with the largest share in the world market of small spindle motors that power hard drives.
Nidec Electric Motor Serbia d.o.o. deals with the sale and production of engines for cars and related products, while Nidec Elesys Europe d.o.o. sells and manufactures inverters and electronic control units for cars.
The corporation operates in more than 40 countries, with approximately 340 companies within the group and employs more than 120,000 people worldwide.
Investing in Serbia is part of the long-term strategy of this corporation, and the opening of factories in Novi Sad is the first step towards the formation of the Nidec industrial park in Europe.
