The National Bank of Serbia stated that official talks between representatives of the Republic of Serbia and the Mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) began with a plenary meeting held in that institution today.
The Serbian delegation is led by Governor of the National Bank of Serbia and Governor of the Republic of Serbia in the International Monetary Fund Jorgovanka Tabakovic.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali and his associates also took part in the talks.
The IMF Mission, led by Donal McGettigan, will be in Belgrade until 4 April.
The talks that started today are taking place within the framework of the first assessment of the results of the stand-by arrangement that was approved for Serbia on 19 December 2022, as well as on the occasion of regular consultation under Article IV of the Statute of the International Monetary Fund.
During the mission, the implementation and effectiveness of economic policy measures in the conditions of challenges coming from the international environment, the prospects of the Serbian economy in the coming period and the realisation of the goals of the economic programme supported by the stand-by arrangement will be discussed.
The programme aims to preserve macroeconomic and financial stability, strengthen the resilience of the economy in the conditions of the global energy crisis and encourage high, ecological, inclusive and sustainable growth in the medium term.
In addition, consultation will be held under Article IV of the Statute of the International Monetary Fund, which is regularly done with all member countries within the supervisory function of this international financial institution.
Previous consultation with the Republic of Serbia took place in 2021, according to the statement.
