Djedovic pointed out that the priority task of the Serbian government and the Ministry of Mining and Energy is to ensure a stable and safe supply of energy and the greatest possible energy independence.
Also, the Minister added that with the completion of the Balkan Stream, we got another direction of gas supply and became a transit country through which gas reaches Hungary and Central Europe.
The Serbia-Bulgaria interconnection will be completed this year, which will give us another supply route and we will no longer depend on only one supplier, said the Minister.
According to her, in cooperation with the European Union, the construction of a new gas interconnection with North Macedonia is also planned, and thanks to these projects, we will be able to count on gas from the Eastern Mediterranean pipeline in the future, in whose construction Cyprus plays a major role.
Theophylactou said that relations between the two countries are traditionally friendly and that Cyprus supports Serbia on its way to the European Union.
He pointed out that Cyprus can share with Serbia its experiences in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, given that it is one of the first countries in Europe to launch programmes for installing solar panels in households.
He added that the energy sector is strategically important for Cyprus, especially at the moment of the global energy crisis, and that there is great potential for cooperation in the area of diversification of gas supply.
The Ambassador emphasised that the construction of the Eastern Mediterranean (East-Med) gas pipeline is very important for Cyprus, which will connect the gas resources of the Eastern Mediterranean with Bulgaria and Greece, via Cyprus, and improve European security of gas supply through the diversification of sources and routes.
