Partnership with USAID to improve energy efficiency

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic and Director of the USAID Mission in Serbia Brooke Asham signed today a Memorandum of Understanding between this Ministry and the US Agency for International Development, which includes joint work on the improvement of energy efficiency in Serbia.

The signing of the Memorandum, which was held at the Nikola Tesla Museum in the presence of the US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill, is also the beginning of a joint programme of educating the population on energy efficiency.

The joint educational campaign was designed to help households reduce energy consumption and save money through practical advice on ways to save, and the character of Nikola Tesla was used as inspiration for the programme.

Djedovic explained that the government's stimulus measures regarding the rational use of energy have so far yielded excellent results – savings in electricity consumption in October amounted to 15 percent, in November seven, while citizens used 9.4 percent less electricity in December than in the same month in 2021.

Director of the USAID Better Energy project Lena Bratic explained that the energy transition is actually the transition of the entire society, not just its segments.

USAID’s $10 million Better Energy programme was launched at the end of 2021 and is focused on helping improve energy efficiency at the municipal level and increasing the use of renewable energy sources.
