Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic met today with a delegation from the UN Development Programme (UNDP), led by Resident Representative in Serbia-Montenegro Francis O’Donnell. The participants in the meeting voiced readiness to cooperate in the implementation of future projects, with support to judicial reforms as a top priority.
Stojkovic stressed that the assistance from international organisations over the past three years has not yielded practical results, when it comes to the efficiency of courts.
UNDP representatives are not satisfied with past results and they expect a serious judicial reform in Serbia, said O’Donnell, and welcomed the minister’s announcement that changes and amendments to laws on judicial proceedings will be completed by the end of the month, which will ensure higher efficiency of courts.
He pointed out that the writing of a law on protected witnesses has a particular importance in the light of international obligations and the possibility of carrying out war crimes trials in domestic courts.
