Ruzic also stated that the Ministry fully respects international standards in that area, in which we are recognised as an example of good practice.
When it comes to education in minority languages, we have one of the best practices in the region and beyond. On the one hand, the right to education in the mother tongue is enabled, and on the other, through a compulsory subject, students learn the Serbian language, the language of the country they live in, explained the Minister.
The Ministry has developed good cooperation with the national councils and together we are working on strengthening the mechanisms for improving intercultural education, improving teaching that promotes diversity and advanced training of teachers who work with national minorities, Ruzic pointed out.
He recalled that our system also recognises the right of minorities to higher education and cited as an example that the Department of the Faculty of Economics in Bujanovac has been offering a study programme - Business Information System since last year.
According to him, 262 students, of whom 172 are Serbs, are enrolled in this programme, which is conducted in a combination of Serbian and Albanian languages.
The Minister pointed out that the effects of measures to support the education of Roma students are very good, citing the fact that there is an increase of 20 percent of Roma children who attend preschool institutions, 15 percent who attend elementary school and 20 percent of children who graduate from high school, while dropout reduced to seven percent.
