At the opening of the international conference "Improving the quality of radiotherapy in Serbia in the period 2015-2022", Brnabic reminded that a lot had been done in the previous period – from investments in primary health care, through health centres, general hospitals to the construction of the most modern clinical centres.
She announced that the government's focus, in cooperation with expert radiotherapy teams, will be on the prevention and treatment of malignant diseases that are increasingly present in Serbia, but also globally.
The Prime Minister reminded that investments were also made in health personnel, and today, compared to 10 years ago, the salaries of nurses and technicians have increased by 103 percent, and that of doctors by slightly more than 90 percent.
In this context, Brnabic expressed her belief that both health workers and patients feel an improvement, but that much more needs to be invested, so that health care continues to progress and become stronger, and health workers remain in Serbia.
According to her, radiotherapy and prevention will be an increasingly important topic in Serbia, because it is a problem we will face in the future.
The government must continue to strengthen that segment of health care in order to provide the best care to all citizens, no matter where they live in Serbia, the Prime Minister stressed, assessing that one of the greatest successes in the past period in the field of health care is the opening of the Niš Center, in which invested approximately €53 million.
Brnabic also referred to the results achieved during the pandemic, pointing out that Serbia continues to work on building an oncology clinic.
Also, as she mentioned, investments were also made in doctors as the most important pillar of healthcare, as well as in the fact that they are approved for specialisations according to an accelerated procedure, on which Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar particularly insisted.
She underlined that there was never a ban on the employment of medical staff, but administrative staff, due to the huge disparity.
It was pointed out at the meeting that since 2014, among other things, in order to increase the availability and quality of treatment of malignant diseases with radiation therapy in specialist oncology centres, 12 linear accelerators with accompanying equipment, gamma and x-ray knife and other equipment have been acquired.
