In an interview for the Chinese Media Group (CMG) on the eve of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Brnabic pointed out that China is Serbia's second most important foreign trade partner.
China has shown to be a stable partner that Serbia can rely on even in the most difficult times, the Prime Minister pointed out, recalling the help that China provided to our country at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in medical equipment, but also by sending a team of medical experts.
Brnabic also pointed to the move of the Chinese HBIS, which did not give up on Zelezara Smederevo steelworks, when the steel quota was introduced from the EU to all third countries, including Serbia, but it remained in our country during difficult times.
Speaking about future cooperation, the Prime Minister said that she expects continued development and strengthening of the strategic partnership and steel friendship of the two countries, as well as more infrastructure projects.
She expressed her gratitude to Chinese companies and banks for financing some of the most important capital projects in Serbia, singling out the biggest railway modernisation project, the railway route between Belgrade and Budapest.
The Prime Minister also recalled a whole series of other road infrastructure projects, such as the Milos Veliki highway and the section from Belgrade to Cacak, and soon to Pozega too, the Fruska Gora Corridor and many other things that we are doing together.
Brnabic also mentioned the project of building the Belgrade Metro, assessing that it is an extremely expensive and ambitious project that will change Belgrade and the whole of Serbia.
Commenting on the current situation in the world, she pointed out that we live in difficult and challenging times when we all need to think about how we see the future of the world and what values it should rest on, but also how we can preserve peace and adhere to basic principles of international public law and the Charter of the United Nations.
The Prime Minister stressed that this primarily refers to the inviolability of the territorial integrity of internationally recognised states, emphasising in this sense the support of China, the Chinese leadership, led by President Xi Jinping, and the Chinese people to the territorial integrity of Serbia.
China's support in the United Nations Security Council, like Serbia's support for the "One China" policy, has never been questioned. I think that such things bring China and Serbia closer together, Brnabic concluded.
