Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said in Tokyo today that former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe did a lot for the relations between Serbia and Japan and that her attendance of Abe’s state funeral is an expression of respect and an indicator that Serbia does not forget that.

In a statement to the press in Tokyo, Brnabic said that the late Abe was the first prime minister of Japan who visited Serbia in 30 years with a business delegation and opened space for a much better political and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Although Serbia and Japan are geographically very far away, everything changed after Abe’s visit, the Prime Minister underlined and recalled that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic decorated Abe with the Order of the Republic of Serbia on a Sash for everything he did on bringing the two countries closer.
That is why Tokyo is a place where a high Serbian official needed to be and show respect and that we do not forget it, Brnabic explained.
She added that on this day, 27 September 1882, diplomatic relations between Serbia and Japan were practically established, with the exchange of the first diplomatic letters.
