Prime Minister in a caretaker capacity Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, today presented 53 contracts for economic empowerment to families of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) residing in Belgrade’s municipality of Voždovac.
The Prime Minister stated that the presentation of the contracts marks a concrete step toward a more secure future for these families, representing an opportunity for a fresh start for each of them.
Macut noted that the government has allocated RSD 8.1 million for the programme in Voždovac, benefiting 21 refugee families and 32 families of internally displaced persons.
He emphasised that the economic empowerment of refugees and internally displaced persons is a vital component of Serbia’s policy, as the permanent resolution of essential life issues entails not only having a roof over one’s head but also the ability to secure a stable life for oneself and one’s family through work.
Macut pointed out that Serbia has been working systematically to address these issues for over three decades and that nearly 90,000 families have received support through various programmes to date, while more than 30,000 families comprising refugees, internally displaced persons and returnees have been provided with permanent housing since 2000 under the Readmission Agreement.
