After the signing of the bilateral agreement, Momirovic said that the conditions have been met for Serbia and Bulgaria to jointly carry out intervention dredging works and in conditions of extremely low water levels to enable the navigability of the Danube, which is a corridor of the greatest importance, and thereby help the economy, not only of our two countries, but also of all Danubian countries.
The works that will be carried out very soon in Bulgaria are of immeasurable importance for our country, our economy and our energy stability, because due to the low water level, more than one million tons of coal, more than 400 thousand tons of grain, as well as products for our steel and chemical industry are currently blocked, said Momirovic.
The Minister added that this is just one in a series of projects that we have with Bulgaria, as well as that joint projects have recently been agreed, primarily related to railway infrastructure, on the construction of an intermodal terminal in Dimitrovgrad, and that there is a great commitment to the realisation of these projects.
Bulgarian Ambassador Petko Doykov expressed his gratitude to Minister Momirovic for his understanding and constructive dialogue in bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Serbia.
Bulgaria highly values the possibility of deepening cooperation by expanding the bilateral legal basis with a commitment to the maintenance of the Danube River and welcomes the joint work of the two countries to ensure smooth transport and supply along the Danube River, which is an important European waterway and part of the main trans-European transport corridor Rhine-Danube, Doykov said.
The agreement signed envisages cooperation on the technical maintenance of the key goods transport sector on the Danube waterway, on the section between 610th and 375th kilometre of the river.
