Minister without portfolio in charge of innovation and technological development Nenad Popovic met today in Budapest with Minister of Technology and Industry of Hungary Laszlo Palkovich.
On that occasion, both sides expressed their readiness for Serbia and Hungary, in the near future, to achieve a higher degree of cooperation in the field of innovation, new technologies and smart industry.
The two ministers assessed that bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and Hungary are at the highest level in the history of relations between the two countries, but also expressed a common position on the existence of space for further improvement of cooperation at the political and economic level.
Also, the ministers agreed that the construction of new railway infrastructure and the establishment of a high-speed railway on the Budapest-Belgrade route will open perspectives for new projects, important for the growth of the two countries' economies.
On this occasion, Popovic reminded that the foreign trade exchange between Serbia and Hungary last year amounted to a record €2.3 billion, which is a growth of 17.9 percent compared to 2020.
Serbia's exports to Hungary amounted to €1.1 billion, and the value of imports from Hungary amounted to €1.2 billion. This development of trade relations resulted in Hungary becoming the 6th trade partner of Serbia in terms of the volume of foreign trade, Popovic pointed out.
During the meeting, the ministers discussed the possibilities for joint projects in the field of innovation, technologies of the future, robotics, virtual reality, and the application of modern, advanced technological solutions in industry, as a support and carrier of economic development.
On this occasion, Popovic invited Palkovich to open the Regional Innovation Smart City Centre in Kanjiza, similar to the one they had opened together in Subotica in 2019, the Office of the Minister without portfolio in charge of innovation and technological development stated.
