Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali stated today that Serbia received the award “Sovereign Green Market Pioneer in 2021”, presented by organisation Climate Bonds Initiative.
Mali underlined that Serbia, as the leading country in the region, wants to be a leader in the implementation of the Green Agenda, noting that we are committed to investing in environmental protection and securing funds for green projects from new sources of financing, such as green bonds market.
The Minister recalled that last year, Serbia issued a green Eurobond for the first time in its history, in the amount of €1 billion and with a maturity of seven years.
He added that funds for environmental protection in the Serbian budget are increased every year, and that next year’s budget will envisage financing of environmental projects which should provide our citizens with clear water, air and a higher quality life.
Serbia managed over the past two years, during the pandemic, to achieve a record economic growth, while maintaining stability of public finances, and the realisation of the Green Agenda has become one of our priorities, the Minister underlined.
Awards, such as this one won by Serbia, are given every year to celebrate efforts and achievements of organisations and governments that have stood out as pioneers in sustainable financial sector, working to address the climate crisis.
