Serbia supports Declaration for Future of Internet at meeting organised by United States

At the event held today at the White House in Washington, organized by the United States and in cooperation with Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom and the European Union, the Declaration for the Future of the Internet was presented.

On behalf of the Republic of Serbia, the Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Mihailo Jovanovic, PhD participated in the meeting (online) and supported the Declaration.

The event in the White House was also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the United States, Marko Djuric.

The Republic of Serbia shares the belief that digital technologies have a strong potential to promote democracy, peace, sustainable development, the rule of law and fundamental human rights and freedoms. Serbia as well shares the goals defined in the Declaration for the Future of the Internet, which relate to the respect for universal values and principles, such as an open, free, reliable and secure global Internet in the future.

“Bearing in mind that the Republic of Serbia sincerely supports the principles of the future of the Internet defined in this Declaration, from the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, through inclusive Internet access to strengthening trust and security in the digital ecosystem, we take this opportunity to officially express our support to the Declaration for the Future of the Internet”, said Jovanovic at the meeting.

Serbia actively participates in initiatives and discussions on cyber security in international formats, including the UN, and strongly supports agreed and compromise solutions for achieving and maintaining security in cyberspace at all levels. In that process, Serbia carefully analyses the positions and attitudes of all key international actors, in order to jointly contribute to achieving sustainable solutions in the legal regulation of open issues in cyberspace at the global level.

The White House event was also attended by line ministers from other countries, representatives of civil society organizations, representatives of global Internet organizations such as the IGF (Internet Governance Forum) and other organizations dealing with human rights and protection on the Internet.
