Prime Minister Ana Brnabic met today with citizens who expressed their dissatisfaction over the way the state carries out expropriation when building highways.
This is the second meeting between the Prime Minister and this group of citizens, the aim of which was to examine the development of the situation since the first meeting.
Both sides agreed that the cases that are on trial cannot be a subject of discussion, as they solely and exclusively fall within the competence of the judiciary.
Both sides also agreed that it is of great importance that the court resolves each of these cases in the shortest time possible and that it is everyone’s obligation to fully abide by the court’s decisions.
The Prime Minister underlined that the goal of the government is to build highways and infrastructural connection of Serbia, but in no way at the expense of any citizen and their property.
Therefore, court decisions on the amount of compensation for land expropriation are of exceptional importance and after them the situation will be clearer and more certain.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the works on a highway, or any other infrastructure project, cannot start on a land whose expropriation has not been fully completed.
Every contractor must respect that, without exception, and any violation of the private property of citizens is inadmissible and punishable by law.
During the talks, an agreement was reached on holding a meeting in the same format in the following period, in order to follow the progress in resolving these issues. The Government of Serbia is open at all times to all citizens and the protection of their rights, because there is no state interest that can be above that.
