Continuing investment in protection of cultural heritage

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, opened the exhibition “Serbian Medieval Monuments in Danger” at the National Museum in Vranje this evening, dedicated to Serbian cultural assets from the List of World Heritage in Danger – the monasteries of Dečani, Gračanica and the Patriarchate of Peć, as well as the Church of the Virgin Mary of Ljeviška in Prizren.

At the opening of the exhibition, which was also addressed by Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković, Macut emphasised that these are not only masterpieces of medieval architecture and art, but also centuries-old testimony to the identity, faith, culture and historical continuity of the Serbian people in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija.

The Prime Minister stated that they are at the same time part of the European and world cultural heritage and that precisely for this reason their preservation is a shared responsibility.

He pointed out that a people who know their roots more confidently build roads to the future and that therefore the Government of Serbia will continue to responsibly invest in the protection of cultural heritage, in the restoration of museums, monasteries, churches and other cultural monuments throughout our country.

According to him, the Government will continue to work persistently and peacefully, in cooperation with all relevant international institutions, to preserve our cultural assets in Kosovo and Metohija.

During his visit to Vranje, Macut also visited the House of Bora Stanković, which preserves the spirit of old Vranje and the memory of the life and work of the great writer whose works have permanently marked Serbian literature.
