Stojkovic and Skare-Ozbolt signed the protocol, according to which cooperation between the two ministries will be conducted on an institutional level, within the framework of a two-day conference of Western Balkans justice ministers with the theme: “Building up Public Law Institutions – A Glance at Judiciary in 21st Century”, which is also being attended by Vice-President and EU Commissioner responsible for Justice, Freedom and Security, Franco Frattini.
Speaking to journalists, Stojkovic said that this agreement will allow normal cooperation between the two ministries considering the fact that relations have been improved and that cooperation between judicial bodies is already functional.
He recalled that this agreement is one of the conditions for signing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) and added that the other condition is the signing of such an agreement with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He said that the conference in Vienna is very important for Serbia, since Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe Erhard Busek will present a report on the results of reforms.
Austrian Justice Minister Karin Gastinger, who today opened the two-day conference, expressed satisfaction with the fact that the signing of the protocol took place in Vienna and said that this agreement is a good sign for the future.
At the conference reforms will be presented in the area of judiciary in the West Balkans countries- Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia-Montenegro. Austria, the country that organised the conference, is to assume presidency of the EU in the upcoming year.
