Members of the Working Group for Solving Mixed Migration Flows, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia Vladimir Cucic and Assistant Chief of the Border Police Sasa Arsenijevic submitted a detailed report to the President of the Working Group and Interior Minister on Ukrainian citizens in Serbia and the population that came to Serbia after 24 February.
The ways in which our country will solve the problems of migration flows caused by the crisis in Ukraine were also discussed.
To that end, the Working Group for Solving the Problem of Mixed Migration Flows also adopted the Plan for the admission of citizens of Ukraine and vulnerable populations who left Ukraine.
Vulin pointed out that no mass influx of Ukrainian citizens has been noticed in Serbia so far, adding that in the period from 25 February to 9 March this year, a total of 6,784 citizens entered Serbia and 5,721 Ukrainian citizens left.
The persons for whom residence registrations were made, were mostly made at private addresses, so these are people who sought help and refuge from their relatives and friends. I note that for now we do not expect any mass influx of people from Ukraine, said Vulin.
The Minister emphasised that Serbia is ready to adequately respond to all the challenges and consequences that may be caused due to the current crisis in Ukraine.
He stated that we are a country on this migrant route that is able to cope with the consequences of this crisis. The Republic of Serbia once again shows that it has institutional answers to the crisis, he added.
Vulin reminded that a million and a half people passed through Serbia during the conflict in the Middle East and pointed out that Serbia treats migrants in a humane way, but also protects its citizens and does not disturb their way of life.
We are approaching the crisis in Ukraine with the same responsibility, Vulin said.
Members of the Working Group for Solving Mixed Migration Flows submitted a report on the current situation in the centres for migrants and asylum seekers and trends in migration flows from Asia and Africa in 2021.
