Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic met today with Michael Miller, the new head of the unit for Serbia and Montenegro in the European Commission, in the Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations.
Joksimovic informed Miller about the reforms that the government of Serbia is implementing in achieving all the set criteria in cluster 1 – Basics, especially in the field of justice, human rights and democratization of society, emphasising that in 2022 the focus of our negotiating structure is on meeting the conditions for opening the remaining clusters.
According to her, cluster 3, which contains eight chapters, and which concerns inclusive growth and competitiveness, is fully ready, i.e., all the criteria for its opening have been met.
In parallel, we are working on all other clusters, especially cluster 5, which includes agricultural policy, cohesion policy, resources, and which contains five important chapters, as well as cluster 2 – Internal Market, she said.
The coordinators of all six clusters presented a cross-section of the situation in all negotiating chapters and a plan of future activities.
The officials agreed that the result of the recent referendum on changing the Constitution in the field of justice is a very important step in Serbia's accession to the EU within cluster 1 – Basics, especially regarding the implementation of the Action Plan for Chapter 23 – Justice and Fundamental Rights.
It was emphasised that the work of Serbia on other sectoral policies was noted and intensified, especially in the field of Green Agenda and sustainable integration.
