Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic met today, as part of his several-day official visit to the countries of Central Africa, with President of Gabon Ali Bongo Ondimba.
Selakovic stated that Serbia is committed to improving the overall cooperation with Gabon and added that he conveyed to President Bongo Ondimba greetings from the Serbian President, as well as Serbia’s readiness to hold a meeting of the presidents of the two countries in the coming period.
He noted that the two countries have a long tradition of friendly relations, and it is precisely this friendship that should be used as a basis for further development of the political and economic cooperation.
Selakovic said that Gabon set serious plans of economic development and that there is space for cooperation in the industrialisation of the country, agriculture, building of food industry, and in exchange of experiences in various fields.
In the continuation of his visit, Selakovic also met today with Minister of Foreign Affairs Pacôme Moubelet-Boubeya, Minister of Agriculture Biendi Magangda-Moussavou and Minister of Defence Michael Moussa Adamo.
After the meetings, the Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs said that he discussed with his interlocutors in Gabon the possibilities of deepening cooperation in various fields, such as agriculture, industry, modern technologies, health care and defence.
According to him, representatives of various departments want to come to Serbia, and in March we will have a visit from representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who will come for political consultation, but also from representatives of the Gabonese Agency for the Promotion of Economic Cooperation.
During Selakovic’s visit to Gabon, the General Cooperation Agreement between the governments of the two countries was signed, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Agriculture.
After visiting Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, Selakovic will continue his official visit to the countries of Central Africa by travelling to Sao Tome and Principe and Cameroon.
