Stojkovic stressed that the Serbian Ministry of Justice is taking all steps within its power and authority to secure realisation of minority rights in judiciary and added that at today’s session of the High Judiciary Council, the candidates for jurors of Roma nationality will be decided on.
According to Stojkovic, the difficulties the Serbian Ministry of Justice is faced with concerning the introduction of Roma national minority in judiciary amount to a generally insufficient education level of Roma people and a shortage of candidates who fulfil the conditions for working in courts.
Strohal said that, in line with the OSCE’s action plan, the OSCE Mission to Serbia-Montenegro will support and help the Serbian Ministry of Justice and other bodies and institutions dealing with minority rights issues, and voiced hope that positive results will soon become visible on regional, national and local levels.
