Prime Minister Ana Brnabic announced today that the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team will discuss at its session next week a possible introduction of covid passes for more facilities.
Speaking at a panel “Youth Immunisation”, held at the Faculty of Organisational Sciences, Brnabic said that this option is always on the table, but that the primary goal was to introduce covid passes in such a manner as to reduce the possibility of any kind of abuse.
We are learning from other EU Member States, we want our measures to be effective, not just a marketing move that everyone will welcome, but will not bring much in practice, the Prime Minister explained.
According to her, the most important is to save lives, health and the health system, but the economy too as this pandemic is extremely expensive.
The Prime Minister stated that it is also important to take care of the nation’s mental health, especially of the young, from whom the coronavirus pandemic took so many things.
Brnabic stated that the epidemic situation in Serbia is getting better every day, but it does not mean it will stay that way, especially if the vaccination rate does not increase.
She noted that covid passes proved to be the best measure for motivating young people between the ages of 18 and 30 to get vaccinated, which is so disappointing as the young people should be on the front line in the fight against the coronavirus.
The Prime Minister said that this is not so in Serbia only, but in other European countries too. She stated the fact that initially 600 young people got vaccinated daily, then after the introduction of covid passes starting from 22.00 that figure grew to 1,500, whereas after introducing obligatory covid passes from 20.00 that figure grew to 2,000 young people getting vaccinated daily.
Now this number fell to 1,200 young people vaccinated per day, which is not enough as that way we will not reach herd immunity even in a year.
The Prime Minister presented the fact that 27.5 percent of young people in the age range from 18 to 30 got vaccinated, whereas in the age range from 12 to 17 only 3.13 percent.
