Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated today that the epidemiological situation in Serbia is better and that the number of new coronavirus cases is on the decline, noting that the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine has helped improve the numbers.
In a televised appearance on Television Pink, Brnabic specified that 1.26 million citizens got vaccinated with the third dose, which is somewhat more than 23 percent of the population. She assessed that this influences the improvement of the epidemiological situation, which is nonetheless still not good or satisfactory.
She presented the fact that around 57 percent of adult citizens received the first dose, but that this is not enough to achieve herd immunity.
The Prime Minister voiced hope that citizens of Serbia will continue to get vaccinated and that the number of those positive for coronavirus will continue to decline.
In addition, Brnabic confirmed that the green covid certificate issued by Serbia, which is recognised by the European Union (EU), is available as of today on the eUprava portal.
Speaking about negotiations with the EU, Brnabic said that she expects the opening of at least one cluster and pointed out that Serbia has the most positive progress report that the European Commission issued over the past few years.
All our efforts have been recognised, first and foremost reforms in the field of the rule of law. For the first time we had to send monthly reports on these reforms to the EU delegation in Serbia, European Commission, all relevant commissioners and EU Member States and this bore fruit.
The Prime Minister said that she hopes that an intergovernmental conference will be held in mid-December, as well as that the opening of clusters will take place during Slovenia’s chairmanship of the EU.
